Tone Game - Fun way to learn the Chinese Mandarin tones 1.1

Are you studying Chinese and struggling with Mandarin tones?

This game originated when I relocated to Beijing with the intention of learning Chinese. One of the primary challenges I faced when beginning my studies was mastering the Mandarin tones. Consequently, I conceived the idea of creating a user-friendly educational game that could benefit Chinese learners seeking to hone their tone recognition skills through an enjoyable practice experience.

During the development phase, while attempting to use my own voice for the game, I promptly realized that employing a native Chinese speaker's voice was indispensable. Subsequently, I enlisted the assistance of my Chinese teacher, who meticulously recorded over 1500 words for the game – it is her voice that guides players through the learning process (special acknowledgment to her!).

The gameplay mechanics are straightforward: players will practice identifying tones while progressively enhancing their proficiency. By listening to the sounds and selecting the correct tone from the four buttons at the screen's bottom, players earn points for accurate responses (displayed in the bottom right corner). As players advance, point multipliers increase, rewarding better performance. Incorrect answers result in losing a life (shown in the bottom left corner). Players can boost their scores by swiftly reacting to prompts. A bonus multiplier feature atop the score gradually decreases after each sound clip finishes playing. Players also have the option to replay an audio cue by tapping its corresponding word, although this action forfeits the bonus multiplier. Extra lives are awarded upon crossing specific score thresholds – progress striving for an additional life indicator (located at the bottom left corner). Phrases gradually expand to include up to four words as players ascend through levels, with textual content being randomly generated from all possible pinyin combinations without specific meanings associated.
